Lisa is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology with a degree in Industrial and Health Systems Engineering. In addition, she holds a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University and Teacher Certification from the State University of West Georgia. After working with the Georgia Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse as a Research Specialist, she decided that she wanted to give back and turned to teaching. Lisa is certified to teach in Georgia and South Carolina in the fields of math and science. Her first teaching job was in an alternative school. Later, she was hired as the middle school learning specialist at an independent school. As a learning specialist, she began to develop a passion for coaching students. She became the director of the Upper School Teaching and Learning Center in 2012. Lisa has received extensive training in coaching, Orton-Gillingham instruction for students with Dyslexia and extensive training on working with students with learning differences and ADHD. Lisa has served on many Southern Association of Independent Schools review teams. According to the SAIS website, accreditation is based on a peer-review model that derives its greatest benefit from peer educators reviewing the school’s self-study and responses to standards/indicators evaluating them in light of the evidence gathered during the team visit. Lisa has presented at several conferences including the 85th Annual ERB Conference in 2012 and was a moderator at the education and neurology section of the Learning and the Brain Conference in 2014. Lisa is a certified Cogmed and Fastforward provider and is a certified academic and life coach. She has been a college admission counselor for the past 3 years and has successfully worked with many students and adults in making positive changes in their lives!
Anna Yarborough is a graduate of Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in Sociology andHistory. She is certified to teach grades 7-12 Social Science and K-12 Special Education. and an M.Ed. with an emphasis on International Relations from Webster University. Anna has more than 25 years of teaching experience in grades 7-12 and nine years of experience working specifically with students who have learning differences. Most recently, she taught social studies at Kirkwood High School in Missouri. She also has experience in curriculum development. Anna has been a Upper School Learning Specialist for the past 3 years and has been instrumental in training teachers for many years. Anna began professional learning communities and supported teachers in their professional development. She has developed programs for senior students in their transition to college. Anna has presented at many workshops for students and teachers and recently, presented on "Transition to College" and "Accommodations verses Modification" at the Southern Association of Independent Learning Specialists at Clemson University. Anna has attended many colleges to enhance her knowledge of learning. Some of those conferences include "Learning and the Brain", "C.H.A.D.D National Conference on ADHD Resources", LDA and IDA Conference. Anna is a certified Cogmed and Fastforword provider and is a certified academic and life coach. In addition, Anna has enriched her teaching by securing grants to participate in study abroad in Costa Rica, Venezeula and China.
